Mini Cooper (BMW) Side Impact Recall

BMW of North America, LLC more commonly known as BMW is recalling certain model year 2014 Mini Cooper Hardtop 2 door vehicles manufactured between December 1, 2013 and May 14, 2014. The affected vehicles do not meet the side impact performance requirements for the rear seat passengers. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 214, "Side impact protection."

What is the significance of not meeting the standard? If the side impact performance requirements are not met, rear seat passengers may be at a higher risk of injury and/or death during a crash.

The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall is expected to begin on or about February 18, 2015. Owners may contact BMW customer service directly at 1-800-831-1117.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
